For free tax help Vermont 2-1-1 can direct citizens making less then 52,000 to a local
IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site.
SEVCA and Granite United Way provide free tax return preparation
Free tax preparation will be offered one day a week by appointment at sites in White River Junction and Windsor.
The volunteers can help with special credits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit. In addition to free tax return assistance, VITA sites offer free electronic filing of federal and state income tax returns. Individuals taking advantage of the e-file program receive their refunds in half the time compared to returns filed on paper — even faster, when tax refunds are deposited directly into a bank account.
Free tax preparation is available by appointment only. Call (866) 444-4211 in Vermont or 2-1-1 from New Hampshire to learn more and to schedule an appointment.
